LIST OF THE NEW TOP LEVEL DOMAINS
Today, 13 June, ICANN revealed the applications in the new TLD program. There are over 1930 applications, which means that not all applications can be approved at the same time.
ICANN will divide the applications into batches of 500 TLDs each with a total of 1000 TLDs per year, which means that some applications will have to wait at least an additional year, before their top level domains are approved.
Applications where received from 60 different countries:
911 applications came from North America.
675 from Europe.
303 applications are from the Asia-Pacific region.
24 are from Latin America and the Caribbean.
17 from Africa.
More statistics regarding the applications:
Of the 1930 applications there are:
1846 are "standard" applications.
84 are "community-based".
66 are geographical names.
116 applications are Internationalized Domain Names, or IDNs, using non-Latin scripts.
It is worth noting also that if several different companies have applied for the same TLD, ICANN will first try to make the stakeholders to work together to run the TLD. If they cannot agree there will be an auction where those who pay the most get top-level domain.
The time table is as below.
July 2012 - The evaluation begins.
December / January 2012 - Results of the evaluation.
Beginning of 2013 - Some TLDs gets approval.
Spring 2013 - The first new TLDs will be able to record.
